Block Wall Gates and View Fence in Phoenix, AZ

Openings, pilasters and gates set into block, plus iron view fence for walls that back onto open space.

Gates in Block Walls Start With the Pilaster

Desert Block Wall Phoenix has masons who cut gate openings, build gate pilasters and set view fence into block walls across Phoenix. A gate is only as solid as the masonry it hangs on, so we treat the pilaster as the main job.

Cutting a new opening for an RV, trailer or side-yard gate means removing block, adding a footing at each side, and building grouted pilasters with steel embedded for the hinges.

For walls that back onto desert, parks or golf courses, a short block knee wall with iron panels on top keeps the view and still marks the line.

View Fence Rules to Know

In planned or condominium developments, Phoenix zoning lets fences reach 6 feet only when they're at least 50% open above 40 inches, which is one reason view fence is common in master-planned neighborhoods. Many HOAs also set the iron style and color.

The City of Phoenix requires a permit for residential walls and fences over 3 feet high, and for retaining walls over 3 feet. We pull that permit as part of the job, so your wall is drawn, inspected and on record.

Wall Gates & View Fence Questions

Can you cut a gate into my existing block wall?

Yes. We cut the opening, add footings and grouted pilasters at each side, and cap the ends so the wall stays strong.

Do you make the gates too?

We build the masonry and set the embeds. The steel gate is fabricated to fit the opening and hung on the pilasters we build.

Is view fence allowed in my HOA?

Often it's required on lots that back onto open space. We'll match the HOA's approved style and give you a drawing to submit.

Why does my gate sag?

Usually the hinge pilaster isn't grouted solid or has no steel. We rebuild the pilaster so the gate has a solid post.
